Transgressive Borders

A Performative Diaspora in Three Movements

Mariolga Reyes Cruz

Claudio Moreira

Desiree Yomtoob

This performance piece is a collaboration between three diasporic subjects: a brown woman from Puerto Rico, an American-Persian-Iraqi woman, and a (White) Brazilian man. Their stories are weaved together to narrate a collective piece of diasporic life that moves across different social-cultural-political contexts and time. Reyes Cruz narrates her personal borders as she grew up, left her home country, and returned. Yomtoob tells stories that connect the intimacy of familial borders with the arbitrariness of those imposed on us. Moreira challenges the lines drawn upon us attempting to keep him and his bunch at the margin. The text was created to be performed collectively in front of an audience.
