"Under Erasure"

The Absent Ill Body in Doctor—Patient Dialogue

This autoethnographic article argues that the ill body exists as a site of scholarship and the wounded body, survives as a corporeal site for understanding the liminal space between health and illness. Throughout the article, the author explores the practice of naming and renaming illness in the medical community as she struggles to reclaim her voice in a meandering journey of medical tests. Through self-reflexive discourse and personal narrative, the author locates her shifting identity and erased body to understand her new role in an unfamiliar culture.
