Deep Play in a Poker Rally: A Sunday among the Ferraristi of Long Island

This article provides a narrative account of a "poker rally" conducted by Ferrari owners and enthusiasts on Long Island, New York. Evoking Clifford Geertz’s treatment of a Balinese cockfight, the author uses this elite event to interpret this ritual drama experientially and textually, thus offering a reading of Ferrari culture and of some persistent problems associated, ever since Geertz’s essay, with narrative ethnography.
